3. St. John’s
4. Morehead State
National Seeding: Clemson is the #10 seed in the tournament.
Player to Watch: Vandy’s best hitter, JJ Bleday is back after missing 5 weeks earlier in the season. His production is a big boost and having him in the lineup makes all the hitters around him better. With him in the lineup, the Vandy Boys are 23-11. They went 8-14 while he was injured.
Top 3 Themes in This Regional:
1. A Repeat of 2017? Clemson, Vanderbilt and St. Johns’s were all 1, 2 and 3 seeds at Clemson last year. Vandy won the 1st round game vs St. Johns then took 2 of 3 from Clemson to advance to the Supers. Can Vandy repeat the 2017 Regional?
2. Can Vanderbilt Deliver in the Clutch? The Dores haven’t had many problems getting on base this year. Where they have struggled is picking those runners up. They average near 8 runners left on base per game and will need to get some big hits this weekend in order to advance.
3. Was the early elimination in Hoover a blessing? Baseball is a grind and Vandy has a lot of young talent who have never played such a long season. These guys have never seen this much action in their careers. While other teams were slogging it out through rain delays and late starts, Vandy was back home gearing up for a regional.
Vanderbilt’s Chances To Win It: I would give them about 30% chance to win this regional. Definitely not the favorite but last year proved it can happen.
Why Clemson Will Win It: Clemson is a really good team top to bottom with the most depth on the mound in this regional. Plus, the Tigers have the revenge factor going for them.
What is Success for Vandy? Getting to the finals in this regional.
